International Business Control, Reporting and Corporate Governance: Global business best practice across cultures, countries and organisations ReviewDon't get fooled by its' title; this book deals on some extent with the subject of "business control"; and marginally discusses "reporting" and "corporate governance". It is rather a book about cross-cultural management.
The first 40-50 pages are probably the most useful, explaining the gradual internationalisation strategy of a firm and, concurrently, on what activities the controlling function should focus. The "mini cases" are generally insightful.
The rest of the book lists a bunch of theories taken from various famous people and presented succinctly in the book by the author; "mini cases" (from the author's work experience mainly) abound again; all these are not necessarily related to the subject stated in the title of the book.
The author even proposes a 12-factor model for "everlasting" company success (obviously, this "success" has to be "controlled"). 5 of these factors were "borrowed" from Jim Collins (author of "Good to Great" and "How the Mighty Fall" among others) and a certain "Professor Cooke". Most of the factors are related to "corporate culture" (e.g. "cult like (sic) culture", "constructive culture", "cross - cultural HR", cross - cultural marketing", "home grown (sic) management").
Not to mention the sheer quantity of misspelled words (e.g. "Soax" instead of "SOX"; "western Europe"; and the list could continue).
