International Business Finance ReviewI had the pleasure of having Professor Connolly in Class. He is really a great professor and his ability to simplify concepts that most classes and professor try to make convoluted and complicated is bar-none.
My class was an Economics class, as Professor Connolly holds a PhD from Chicago. He did work at a very high level in banks, so his understanding is based in Economics but his practice is in more "practical" and based in finance, which shows in the book.
Basic Understanding of Economic Principals and a Basic Finance (TMV, PV, Opportunity costs etc) will IMMENSELY help your understanding of this book. Also, One detail He does leave out out is in these currency deals, is that the companies are not looking to make money on trading currencies, but just trying not too lose money in the process of converting currencies. This goes back to the idea that businesses do what they do and should not try to perform functions that are not within their business (Hedgehog Concert per "Good to Great" by Jim Collins), a basic business principal.
Overall, I really liked the book and the class. I would also say that this book is more of an "introduction." The book does not go into complete detail, and I could see much Graduate work being more in-depth, with legalities and such. This book is great at taking what you know about economics and applying it too the Fundamentals of International Finance. The last chapter is on the history and how Ponzi Games work was really interesting and quite frankly - a bit scary.
In the end, you will get the basic principals and the book also has examples and answers to help you move your understanding along. This is an Economics book, but written by a former President of banks - so it has a lot of practical more "Finance" language and simplicity.International Business Finance Overview
