YOU CANT TALK TO ME THAT WAY ReviewThis book examines the issue of how the workplace can often be a place where language and treatment of employees can sometimes reach levels of "abuse" and certainly can be toxic and harmful to the people who work there.
The first sections of the book are interesting, as the psychological aspects of workplace behaviors are identified and the effects categorized. The analysis is fairly accurate in my experience in corporate America. While rare, the incidents are indeed a reality at times unfortunately.
However, the end of the book outlines what a person can do if they are placed in this situation. While the intentions of these guidelines are certainly admirable, many will backfire if implemented. It appears that the author is well versed in communication and psychology, but does not understand the way a company operates.
The net of this book is that it does a good job of identifying both the effects and practices of behavior which does in fact feel toxic to many employees, but the book falls short when trying to define solutions. I suggest a different kind of book "Leadership and Self Deception" for a better understanding of the solutions of toxic behavior - which happens and is solved one person, one interaction at a time.
